World Rugby Law Application Guideline: Head Contact Process – Effective from 10th March 2021
To help our members return confidently to the field, the RFU have produced a number of short topical video’s supported by Professional Referee colleagues, entitled Connected Match Officials. This is the link for Wayne Barnes talking through the Connected Match Officials – Head Contact Process.
Head Contact Process – (HCP) Law Application Guideline attached, which is effective immediately from 10th March 2021.
The RFU material can be found here and downloaded for reference. Example videos are available online at: https://www.world.rugby/the-game/laws/guidelines/17
Consideration has been broadened within the HCP to include all illegal head and neck contact, including dangerous clean-outs, head-on-head collisions and head contact which arises from ball carriers leading with an elbow or forearm, in addition to high tackles and shoulder charges. Please circulate to your members and rugby contacts.
With the assistance of colleagues from the Professional Game Match Official Team we will, in the near future be delivering a webinar on the subject.
Take care, kind regards,
Michael Patz
