Do you referee at children’s matches (U18 and below)?

  • May 24, 2018

If you referee matches involving youngsters aged up to, and including, 18 years old, then please re-familiarise yourself with the information provided by the RFU on Safeguarding Children.

A recent incident highlighted the importance applying the principles and best practice outlined in the RFU Safeguarding Children Policy.

The RFU sate that:

“In order to provide children with the best possible experiences and opportunities in rugby union, it is imperative that everyone operates within an accepted ethical framework and demonstrates exemplary behaviour. This not only ensures the game makes a positive contribution to the development of children, safeguards them and promotes their welfare but also protects all personnel from allegations of abuse or poor practice.”

By refereeing these junior matches you are providing a valuable service to the game and all those involved in age-grade rugby. The Society is grateful to you for doing so and wants to be sure that you are fully aware of the RFU’s approach to safeguarding children.
