Society referee John Pemberton (“Pembo”) completed his eight-month sponsored running programme for the RFU Injured Players Foundation at this year’s London marathon. In doing so, he ran 2,200 kilometres in total and raised over £14,000 – quite some achievement!.

See the RFU page for more information on John’s efforts..

John said, “I just want to thank everyone who has been so supportive, be it sponsoring me or just encouraging me along the way. To be part of the London Marathon is so awe inspiring; I would recommend every one of you tries to get to London at least once, if not to run, just to enjoy the day.”

It all started at the beginning of this season when John committed, as a minimum, to run 10km before, and 5km after, each Saturday match he refereed and then finally to run the London Marathon.

He completed the Marathon in a very respectable 3hrs 22mins, only three weeks after recording 3hrs 6mins at the Manchester Marathon.
